How do In-Screen Fingerprint Sensors Work?

What is fingerprint sensor/fingerprint scanner?

A fingerprint scanner is a major type of electronic security system that uses fingerprints for biometric authentication. And the main aim of fingerprint scanner is to grant a user to access the information.
Fingerprint scanners are security systems of biometrics. They are now used in airport security, police stations, security industries and most recently, on smartphones.

Types of fingerprint scanners :

1)Optical scanners :

Using a digital camera optical scanner take a visual image of the fingerprint.A scanner works by digitizing an image by dividing it into a grid of boxes and representing each box with either a zero or a one, depending on whether the box is filled in.Optical scanners represent all images as bit maps. Optical scanner do not differentiate text from illustrations, they charactered all images as bit maps. So, you can't directly modify text that has been scanned. The optical character recognition (OCR ) system used to edit text read by an optical scanner to translate the image into ASCII characters.

2)Capacitive or CMOS scanners :

Capacitive fingerprint scanners like a optical scanners but only differance is  capacitive fingerprint scanners generate an image of the valleys and ridges that make up a fingerprint. But likewise of sensing the print using light, the capacitors use electrical current.
To form an image of the fingerprint Capacitive or CMOS scanners uses capacitors and thus electrical current. The capacitive pixel array associates and catches the fingerprint details and represents the resolution of the sensor. It does this operation by describing the size and pitch of the cells.

3)Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners:

By bouncing a sonic pulse wave off of your fingerprint to create a 3-dimensional image, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor works. It is very  secure than optical in-display sensors. Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor will work even if your fingers are oily, greasy, dirty, moist, wet.

Ultrasonic fingerprint technology has a very different approach than capacitive fingerprint sensors that can only produce 2 dimensional images. 3D information are more complex to produce than a normal 2D image and hence this makes 3D images and Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners much secure. In short this means the Ultrasonic sensors are even more useful when it comes to security and overtakes the optical fingerprint scanners, which have everything upto mark except safety level.
